Alaskan Highway through the Yukon and on to Alaska

Many things struck us about the Alaskan Highway through the Yukon Territories: The road is terrible. We probably averaged 30 mph because we had to keep watching for dips and frost upheavals. another thing that was amazing is the bicycle riders with all their gear riding that road. We stopped to ask one rider where he was going, but he did not speak English. This area is very popular with Germans, so we suspect he was German. The area is desolate and barren, compared to the part of Alaska we had already seen. We are in Tok, Alaska tonight at the Sourdough Campground. We are 328 miles from Anchorage. Gas is $4.62 a gallon. We paid almost $6 a gallon in Haines Junction, YT, so we were happy it is less.

I live in Haines and the highest gas prices are $4.33 a gallon and that is for premium unleaded. It's cheaper here than in Anchorage!
