Still Watching for Bears
We heard so many bear horror stories while in Alaska, we weren't too thrilled to go hiking. They have signs posted everywhere telling you to watch out for bears. We thought it would be wise to buy a "bear bell". It is a bell on a caribiner that you wear to make noise so that the bear is not startled. Also, some people recommend that you buy "Bear Pepper spray". We were going to buy some of that until some hikers told us that if you carry/use bear pepper spray, you are just going to be "spicy dinner" for the bear! So when we saw this last bear warning sign, we thought it was great.

WOW -- Anita and Denny! Welcome back to the US! I enjoyed your trip vicariously through your awesome blog. We just got back from a little road trip of our own to Albuquerque and through the Grand Canyon. I attended a fantastic conference in ABQ entitled the Inner Room (about contemplative prayer and action) -- really good stuff. Check out their website on your down time (ha ha) www.cacradicalgrace.org
I am so excited for your little grand-daughter. I know you'll keep us posted. A little Cortes child will soon be on his way also (my brother and his wife): November 2008. I am sending you much love, peace, and blessings. You rock Howards!
